JUNIPER BARK AS AGGREGATE SUBSTITUTE IN CONCRETE

I have found some interesting literature on the subject we are studying. There are data that answer to some of our questions.
What I was thinking is to compare the wood they are using in their study with the Melaleuca.
:D

Questions -

- Surface treatments, can it be polished? textures?
- Surface patterns, how small can they be?
- Durability, is there a lifespan to the product? does it decay over time? how long?
- Water resistance?
- Can it be reused?
- Strength, how thin can it be until it cracks?
- How does it compare to concrete structurally?
- How small of a product can you create with woodcrete?
- How long does it take for it to cure?

Diego & Francesca Mold Process

Diego & Francesca 10 Questions.

1.Compression Strength vs. weight? (what about wind load or earthquake capacities?)
2.durability, design versatility, long-term performance, ease of maintenance, environmental benefits, and life-cycle costs?
3.Surface feature and possibility?
4.Permeability, insulation? can it be used for roofing?
5.Moist, mold? The mass and weight would be changed by the curing of concrete? deformation?
6.Is it exposed to parasite or fungi?
7.How is its work ability  can be changed with its composition like concrete? are the properties of the concrete aggregate maintained in the new formula? Can we use the same advantages?
8.What is the curing time?
9.What are the modification capability on-site?
10.elasticity, capability to interact with other materials and which one are optimizing its characteristics?
11. type of connection between modular elements?

Alan + Mauricio: Questions

  1. How thin can the material be produced?
  2. Can it be machined with a CNC router?
  3. Can it be sprayed over reinforced mesh?
  4. How long is its curing time? Can it be accelerated or slowed down?
  5. Does it emit harmful gases if it catches on fire?
  6. What is its Fire Resistance value?
  7. Porosity allows plants to grow within?
  8. Compresive strenght in lbs/sf?
  9. Has it been tested with other standard concrete aggregates? (i.e. glass fibers?)
  10. Does it have a smell when cured?
  11. Can it be powdered before being miniralized?
  12. How much detail (graphical) can be produced?

Framing Studies

Noel + Andrea _ Forms and Shapes + case studies

What Levels of finish can be achieved?

Can it be milled to provide surface texturing/patterning

Can it be waterproofed? Do waterproofing agents react negatively with it?

Does it respond to accelerants?

How thin can this be cast without showing signs of failure?(for production of membrane like surfaces)

possiblity of being self supporting for use in small to medium scale uses

Have they sprayed the concrete onto formwork?
